Surf Drive Rosa Ragosa - 16" x 20" - oil/canvas

Welcome

Doug Rugh, CM is a full-time landscape, portrait and still life painter who maintains a studio/gallery in Falmouth on Cape Cod with his artist wife, Hillary Osborn.

Doug believes that it is important for artists to work from life rather than photographs and much of his inspiration comes from the surrounding beauty of the Cape. The artist was trained in the classical atelier methods of the masters but is also interested in contemporary techniques and themes and looks for new ways to approach familiar subjects.

Sometimes a collector expresses an interest in a work while the painting is still in progress in the studio/gallery so in some cases paintings don't appear on the web site until after they are already sold or not at all.

Landscapes, Portraits and Still Lifes

His work ranges from: carefully rendered miniatures to full-size portraits. From studied still-lifes layered with glazes (and hand-mulled paint) to plein air works painted on location and large textural landscapes created largely with palette knives and partly from memory. His intent is to use the broad latitude of the medium to best express the visual inspiration at hand.
